Karen Unger, MSW, Ed.D.

Karen V. Unger, MSW, Ed.D., is an educator and author with a life-long interest in health. She has a background in psychology, social work and education and has worked for three decades in the fields of mental health and education. She has written a book entitled Handbook on Supported Education, Providing Services to Students with Psychiatric Disabilities, book chapters, peer-reviewed articles, federal policy papers and an Evidence-based Practice Kit for Supported Education for the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. At Boston University she was a senior staff person at the Center for Psychiatric Rehabilitation and an adjunct professor at Sargent College of Allied Health Professions. She has also been a research associate professor at the Community Rehabilitation Division, Arizona State University in Tucson and is currently a research associate professor at the Graduate School of Education at Portland State University in Oregon. Dr. Unger is president of Rehabilitation Through Education and lives in Portland, Oregon.

Dr. Unger is available to provide training and consultation for Brain Health programs and Supported Education programs.

About the Consultant

LuAnne Cavender is a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, with certification from the Nutritional Therapy Association. Her certification allows her to be a nutritional therapist, consultant and educator. Her background includes a BS in biology and two years of medical school at the Medical University of South Carolina. She has worked in medical research with a specialty in neuroanatomy, worked in clinical microbiology, done medical legal research and worked in National Health Services Clinics doing patient education.
